Nike+ for weight loss

Postby Snrm » Sun May 06, 2012 8:53 pm

Does anyone here use Nike+ products for weight loss? I use the Nike+ GPS app to track my runs and to give me motivation. I have 168 miles ran total :D . I have been thinking about getting a Nike+ FuelBand to track my all day calories burned but it is extremely expensive at $150. Does anyone here have a FuelBand? What do you think of it?

I wouldn't pay that much for a calorie counter. When I think of devices like this, I think of the exercise obsessive who is constantly checking their calorie counter in a panicky mess. I don't think it is necessary. Just use scales and adjust your calorie intake accordingly.

In addition to Nike:Increase from walking every day (walking, then speed walking, jogging, etc). Remember that when it gets tough and you're out of breath, think of that as motivation instead of pulling you back, the worst thing you can do is quit. also, drink plenty of water and eat healthy foods, like wheat pasta and sugar free smoothies.

I guess that could be true but I just think it looks cool and it would be cool to see my totals for everything. It would be a great motivation to see how many steps I have in total. What are your opinions of other Nike+ products? I use Nike+ GPS (99 cent App) and it tracks my runs for distance while it is in my pocket. The app just tracks motion in your pocket to calculate the distance and it is usually pretty darn accurate! There is also a built-in music player so you don't need to worry about that.

I wouldn't pay 150 dollars because it looks good, but that's down to personal preference. I do like the Nike products, I bought one of the Nike sport watches almost 15 years ago and it still works. I would pay for the app, I like to know the distance I have covered. Is it accurate?

Yes I found the app to be pretty accurate. I hold my Iphone in my hand when I run but I am sure it would be just as good if you had an arm strap or if it was in your pocket. If you are running on a treadmill the app gives you the option to "re-fine" your distance ran. Basically all that means is you can change the decimal part of your mileage just in case the app was inaccurate. I always find it to be pretty dead-on accurate though.

No I have not tried any of these products. I think you are primarily paying for the Brand name. There are some great off brand products that are FAR less but yet can still provide you with the same great features to help you track your progress. My phone (Android) even has some cool apps I can download to help me.

I wouldn't pay that much for a product. I mean, sure, it is convenient to store all of your information, but I think that is just to much to pay. I might pay for the app just to keep track of the distance, to keep on track, but I pretty much stick to the basics. The weight is coming off and I am eating healthy. Nike is a great brand but that is what you are paying for, the name.

What about the Nike Fuel Band? I have heard some positive reviews regarding it, however I think $150 is an absurd amount to pay for a exercise band. It does help track your daily activity, however it doesn't contribute to any direct loss of weight.

I wouldn't pay that much for it. I think they should offer a discount if you already own Nike+ items.
