Is Baseball An Old Sport

Is Baseball An Old Sport

I know many people are disgruntled with baseball and commonly view it as an old person sport. Do you think this is true? Is baseball really out of touch with the younger generation of fans it needs to support the sport?

I don't think so.Baseball is probably the hardest of the five major sports in America. Hitting a round ball with a round bat safely is pretty hard. It's a lot harder than catching a ball and running down a field, or running around and throwing a ball into a net, or slapping a puck in a net.

I agree baseball can be harder then what you think, but it seems to be older crowds watching the games. So I am wondering if this is a ball game which is dying off because its crowd is not as drawn to the sport.

Yeah, I guess you could say that. It's definitely a slow sport compared to the others. Also, there is much less violence which young people seem to like. Sports like football and hockey are good examples. But still, your point is not lost, as the pace is also a major factor in whether younger people will like it or not, take the spot of basketball for example, very fast game with almost no violence like the hitting you would see in football or hockey.

It's a spectator sport that's more to the speed of older people.

I have yet to meet anyone who''s a baseball fan by choice. They all seemed to be fans because their fathers took them to games a lot as a kid. So, the sport means something to them, mostly due to the time they had with their parent. Going to the ball park brings back those feelings and memories.

I find it difficult to sit though an entire game.Watching it on tv makes me want to do other things, and catch the replays when something interesting happens in the game.Golf moves faster, and that's a notoriously old person sport.

This is a great point. I can relate to what you said about how bonding with your father happens a lot at sports games, baseball in particular. I remember a bunch of great time I have had with my dad at the ballpark.

This is true, I never really thought about the dads taking kids to the game. Then it becomes more of a family tradition then a sport to watch. I guess I will have to get my husband to carry on the family tradition!

Yes, baseball has become a world wide sport. However, do you not feel the sport has had some waning in popularity as more people want to see the instant results and fast game play?
