Back exercises

Postby magickat » Fri Apr 27, 2012 1:50 pm

I have read that during pregnancy you should do exercises to strengthen your back. Could anyone give me examples of the sort of moves that would safely strengthen your back?

Instead of the usual exercises that you do in the gym, is advisable during pregnancy do water aerobics. they are much safer, strengthen the muscles and joints and help to eliminate the water retention.

The best exercises for strengthening the back is the deadlift. The deadlift will recruit all of the muscles in the back. The second best exercise for strengthening your back is the pull up. Pull ups are an excellent body weight exercise for the back.

Definitely talk to a doctor about lifting weights during pregnancy. Other than that, the key back exercises are deadlift, row, and weighted pull-up. Those three cover all the muscles in the back.

Good back exercises for pregnant women would be exercises like wrestlers bridge, wall slides, bird-dog, hip bridge, and side planks. Less demanding exercises which will strengthening the spine functionally. Using weights would not be a good idea when pregnant.

I also suggest you to make Forward Bend: Sit in a chair that has a hard seat. While keeping your arms relaxed, bend forward, allowing your arms to hang down in front of you. Hold the position for a five count and then sit up slowly. Repeat five times.

I would never suggest any sort of weight training to a pregnant woman. But, for after you deliver, I love the TBar Row, one arm rows, Romanian deadlifts and I've always wanted to get into doing Good Mornings.

I agree with those above who have mentioned avoiding lifting weights during pregnancy. The exception would be if you had been lifting weights before you got pregnant, feel free to continue with a similar routine while also paying attention to your body.

To improve the muscles in your back, doing regular life activities is a great idea. Swimming (as mentioned) is a fantastic way to keep the pressure off your joints and stomach while still working the muscles. Also, lifting smaller things and doing light twists was very beneficial to me when I was pregnant.

Best of luck!
