Does The Draft Show Athletes Or Not

As the NFL draft starts tomorrow, does this showcase more of the athletes or is it more of a show. Now I know many of the players are better in shape then anyone you run into, but does this really lead to the players being around for a longer period of time? For example who will have a better chance the athlete who takes care of them self properly or those who have a combination of skills even if it is not the top athletic skills?
