Best whey protein powder

Postby SirTenenbaum » Wed Apr 25, 2012 3:02 pm

Hi everybody. I like to supplement my diet and the protein I get naturally by drinking a whey protein powder mixed with water. I kind of just buy whatever catches my eye at the store. Does anybody have any insight into which whey protein brand/formula is the best (and also a reasonable price)? Is their a supplement that's better than whey protein?

Whey protein is the most bioavailable protein for the body.

There are different types of whey protein that will differ the price.

Hydrolyslate - is the priciest of them all but also the fastest digestion
Isolate - is a fast digesting protein high in aminos
Concentrate - a lower quality protein that does release a bit slower into the system
Casien - slowest release possible for the body, upto 8 hrs great before bed.

If you're looking for a great post workout protein, an isolate will do just fine. Usually the quality of the protein is reflected in its price. Its best to find a brand you like, and the taste you like as everyone has a different taste pallet.

Some great protiens i'd recommend:

Lean mass builder by ADS
Isoflex by Allmax
Iso 93 by Ultimate nutrition

are just a few. One thing not to skimp out on is your nutrition. You go cheap you get cheap results. My opinion.

Hope this helps

Optimum is voted year in and year out the best whey protein by several groups/orgs and is probably the most widely used by body builders/strength lifters. Its because it is 100% isolated whey protein i.e. your body will be able to process it very effciently.

I have tried BSN Syntha-6, Optimum 100% Whey, EAS, and Dynatize ISO 100. Dynatize ISO 100 is the best I have used so far. Syntha 6 taste great but is high in fat and gave me a upset stomach. Optimum Pro Complex is pretty good for a morning/ right before you go to sleep protein, however I only use 1/2 serving before sleep. I take the Dynatize ISO 100 30 min before and immediately after my workouts. ;)

Syntha 6. Quick description of it:

"Available in 3 or 5 pounds bottles, Syntha-6 contains a multi-functional micellar protein matrix along with essential amino acids and glutamine peptides for quick muscle recovery. Syntha 6 is also fortified fiber for more drawn out digestion which plays into good absorption and of course greater muscle nourishing benefits."

It is 25$ for one.

The best brand would probably be Optimum Nutrition (whey Isolate). I haven't tried many but I'm using cyotosport whey CONCENTRATE right now and it upsets my stomach badly if I have more than a scoop a day. Whey concentrate sucks for most people IMO.

Whey protein is one of the most popular supplements available today, and it is a high quality protein powder from cow's milk.Another excellent protein overall is NOW Foods WPI because, aside from the purity of the product (I like things that are "all natural"), the price can't be beat.

I buy whatever whey protein supplement is the cheapest. A lot of bodybuilding magazines will have you believe that supplements like whey isolate is superior. However, I do not believe this for a second and is just a way to get you to pay more.

If you are taking a protein supplement, whey concentrate is sufficient in my opinion, and it also tends to be cheaper. As far as brand goes, the ones with less advertising are often cheaper and preferred. Some of these include Optimum Nutrition, Ultimate Nutrition and Sci Fit. Avoid brands like Muscle Tech and Xyience, which are heavily advertised and overpriced.

Funny. I take GNC Whey protein Chocolate flavored. I mix it with some milk powder and it tastes great. You should try that when you buy your next tub.
