How many diets have you tried

Postby fitnessk » Wed Apr 25, 2012 12:57 am

IF you are someone who is looking to drop some weight or if you have always struggled with weight, have you used a lot of diets? I know some people who have tried diet after diet without seeing much success. I think it is more important to focus on eating well than a specific trendy diet.

Never really tried a diet. There are so many out there that claim to work, but in the end it's all about you.

A person knows what they should be eating in terms of being healthy.

It's never about consuming less, it's about consuming the right amount of each food. Too much of everything is always a bad thing.

I've never followed a specific diet (such as Atkins or South Beach) and I think fad diets are a bad idea. When I have decided to lose some weight I just make sure I am consuming less calories than I am burning off and it has proved very successful. But generally i just try to eat a healthy balanced diet and do some regular exercise.

I also am not one for fad diets. I was just curious if anyone else tried to use a lot of different diets. I agree that it is about eating the right foods. Eating in a healthy manner should be the focus.

I think something important to remember is that some people are naturally heavier or skinnier. Somebody who has husky genes will have much more difficulty getting down to and keeping a lower weight. I think the goal should be just to eat healthy. Lots of vegetables with healthy protein and fats (think salmon and nuts) is a good emphasis for somebody's eating habits.

When I was a teenager I tried the soup diet. I lost a lot of weight in a short space of time but I soon regained the weight when I started eating whole food again. I've also tried the traditional bodybuilding bulk diet - lots of peanut butter, pasta, rice, cottage cheese etc. I wouldn't recommend either.

I did try the Atkins diet in high school, but it was very hard for me to stick to. I do not do any special diet now. Instead, of provide my body with nutrient dense, fresh, whole foods as much as possible. If I want something sweet or not so good, I have it- I just don't overdo it or eat it too often. I have had the best results doing this.

I've tried a bunch of different approaches to nutrition, but the fundamentals are what worked every time, and that is simply using more calories than you consume. It's really that simple. You can eat less or eat healthier, or you can exercise more intensely or more frequently, but the fundamentals will always apply.

In my opinion, a moderate carb diet, with slight carb restriction is the most effective way
for bodybuilders to get ripped. For example:175 -200 grams of carbs with most of the carbs eaten early in the day. Every 4th day, I have a high carb day 350 grams+ to replenish my depleted glycogen stores. By contrast, my off-season diet is 350 - 450 grams of carbs. With 175 - 200 grams of carbs, that is just enough fuel to provide the energy I needed to train hard and to prevent me from losing muscle.
