Making the most from kettlebell workout

Postby Olivia » Thu Apr 19, 2012 11:20 pm

I just started a Kettlebell class. It only meets weekly for 45 minutes and I want to be sure I'm getting the most bang for my buck. We have certified instructors teaching the class but is there anything else I can do?

You can do a lot of the same exercises that dumbbells can do. I think the best ones to get the heart rate up are explosive movements like snatches.

Outside of class I also do yoga once a week plus some bike riding. No other weight training at the moment. I do have some hand weights available to me but no kettlebells.

One thing I do like about this class is that the instructors rotate. There are 3 instructors and over the 10 week session they take turns teaching the class.

If you have certified instructors, they will provide you with a good kettlebell workout. Follow their advice and you will make good progress. My favourite kettlebell exercises are Turkish get-ups and swings.

I am glad they provide assistance because sometimes it's hard to know if you are doing the routines correctly.

Yeah, that's a great benefit to the class I think. They each do it slightly different and focus on different things. Today's instructor had us doing stations which I thought was great and shorter reps but more of them.

Keep us posted on what you learn from the kettlebell class and how you like it. I have been thinking about buying a kettlebell. One of the stores has these along with instructions showing various exercises. I know a couple people who use these and who have told me that they feel as if they are getting good results.

I recommend you to make this type of training only with a qualified instructor, because you risk making mistakes and injuries.Anyway if you want making something else i suggest you to make cardio activity. For example: running, bicycling and others.

With kettlebells you can work on strength, speed, stamina with a good kettlebell class and the workouts can either be periodized. You can address different issues your strength, stamina.
Do the one you enjoy more both will burn ,fat and tone but I do believe with a good instructor the kettlebell will be more versatile and less boring than a routine.

Kettlebell workouts are great for burning fat and calories. Your metabolic rate will be raised for hours after an intense kettlebell session. I use kettlebells for functional conditioning and core work, rather than building strength and muscle. Exercises like kettlebell swings and Turkish get-ups are good for core conditioning.
