Homemade weight gainer shake

I dont use any specific recipe, I throw in practically anything I see and blend it. Its usually:

Main ingredients
2 cups of milk
1 cup of oatmeal
3-4 table spoon of peanut butter

Things you can add
Depending on the time (pre or post workout) I throw in half a serving of protein powder
Some chocolate powder
Flax seeds/you can use flax oil too
Banana
And if you really want to increase your calorie count with this shake Dextrose

This is a pretty heavy shake, you will feel like you just ate at a buffet. If you are drinking this after a workout or in the morning you don't have to worry about the sugar content. Otherwise don't add any of those simple carbs.

Sounds filling! Could you use it as a meal replacer as well?

Is it better to drink a shake before or after workout?

Oh yeah, you will be extremely full. I dont recommend drinking more than a serving a day though.

I would say after because your body will need all the carbs to spike the insulin and restore glycogen stores. If you drink it before you will need to wait an hour before working out.

This will certainly help you gain weight, mostly fat! Highly insulinogenic recipe.

Thats why you take it after working out, to spike the insulin levels. What do you think weight gainers are made of? You wont gain any fat if you know what you are doing.

This is my shake:
1 1/2 cups whole milk
2 tablespoons peanut butter
1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
2 scoops chocolate whey
1 tablespoon of olive oil
Works out to be 72 grams of protein and about 800 calories.

Would eggs make a good addition to the shake? I thought eggs were the holy grail of exercise shakes.

Why would you need to spike insulin levels post-workout? Insulin sensitivity will be naturally elevated post-workout, there is no need to try and jack it up even more.

A good thing to add is ice cream. When I made my homemade weight gainer, I always threw in some vanilla or chocolate ice cream.
