Slacklining

Postby brandontnguyen » Mon Apr 16, 2012 10:18 pm

Not sure how many people know about slacklining, but it's a really cool sport where it's basically a trampoline and a tightrope put together. It was also featured in the most recent superbowl half time show. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else here slacklines, and if anyone can identify what muscles are being primarily worked when slacklining. Here's a video demonstration.

Judging by the video, slackening will primarily work the core muscles. You need a high level of core strength to perform these moves. The stabilising core muscles will be engaged throughout.

Have you ever had any personal experience slacklining?

Slacklining is a great way to improve your balance.
It's also really good for your abs, you have to tighten them to stay on, especially when you're about to lose your balance and your feet go out to the side. It also strengthens your legs, especially your knees.

Can't say I have heard of slacklining before now. I have a lot of core strength from pilates, but my balance is not superb. Sounds pretty interesting!

Motor skills like balance and coordination are inherent but we can develop our motor skills with practice. Once you learn how to balance, your brain will store the new skill and it will become automatic in the future. Women have naturally superior motor skills to men, it is one of the few facets of sport which they are superior to men in.

I wouldn't recommend for a expert the gibbon slackline set. For one thing this is because the tape is 50mm wide instead of 25mm,so it's kinda too easy! that and it's pretty expensive for what you get.

I agree, Gibbon sell a 25mm slackline for around 60 dollars. I agree though, I wouldn't bother paying for a 'beginner' slackline because you will soon outgrow it as your motor skills develop. A beginner slackline is good if you don't have to pay for it, or if you have loads of money!

I've seen video of that, but never understood what the heck it was supposed to be. My core is no where near the level it would have to be for me to successfully try that.I bet it would b pretty fun once your found a rhythm or your center.
