Belly fat

Postby zacpario » Sun Apr 08, 2012 6:29 am

I've shed about 6kgs in 3weeks and now I'm stuck to being 62kgs for 2weeks already. Is that normal or should I change something with my exercise habit. My belly fat is also a problem, I'm losing weight but my tummy is still big. Any suggestions how I can get rid of my belly fat?

It is not uncommon to have weeks when you really do not lose weight. Whether you need to make any other changes depends on how many calories you are currently eating as well as your exercise routine.

I agree that it is normal to have plateaus throughout your dieting experience. The body is just challenging you to see if you will stick with your program. The body resists change and it doesn't want to let go of those fat stores but as long as you don't give up the body is forced to change. Eating a small meal every 3 hours can increase your metabolism so that you burn more calories. If your metabolism slows down then you will gain weight. I have found that by eating the smaller meals throughout the day and by exercising every other day I am losing weight. It is important to let the body recover between workouts if you are trying to build muscle. If you are just toning then working out every day is okay. A good exercise for the stubborn are we all suffer from after having children, I recommend sit ups and old fashioned push ups. Work those tummy muscles and you will see a difference. Also, remember to always consciously pull your tummy in...I noticed that after a few children I had forgotten what my mom always taught me, to hold my tummy in...you will feel a burn if you haven't been doing it for a while and if you feel it then you know it is working the muscle!

I've heard from many bodybuilders that the areas you gain fat the easiest are also the areas you lose them the hardest.

There is no such thing as spot reduction, so you just need to keep staying on a caloric deficit. Change things up a bit, not just your workouts but your diet as well. As long as you are on a caloric deficit you will lose those last few lbs.

You are correct that it is not really possible to target a specific spot to lose fat or weight. So, it is not really possible to only lose belly fat. The hope is that if you do things to cut down on body fat, some of the fat you lose comes from the belly (or whatever trouble spot you have).

As everyone has already stated you're in plateau which is normal and shouldn't last too long. That being said, you should switch up your workouts. Our body is in a constant state of adaptation, meaning it adapts to whatever we demand. I change my workouts frequently so as to keep my body guessing. I look at it like shocking my body, every time that my body has to re-adapt to something new it has to work harder to do so.

I wish I could lose weight in specific areas! I have a gut, too. It looks out of proportion with the rest of my body since my hips and waist have shrunk. I'm trying to burn more calories than I take in and never follow an eating or exercise schedule. I change it up every day to try to keep myself from hitting a plateau. It's working pretty well so far, since I can't wear my old pants anymore.

Your experience is normal. Building muscle and losing fat is not a linear process. There will be spurts of fat loss or muscle growth, gradual progress and plateaus. It sounds like you have reached a plateau. Make adjustments to your eating and exercise plan, small adjustments will propel you through the plateau.

I would recommend that once you reach that point, you should recreate your workout regimen. It should help out. I can't help but think that your body has grown accustomed to your workout, so now you need to come up with a new workout. Plus, after working out with one regimen for awhile, it's sometimes helpful to increase reps.

You should increase reps or weight each workout, the aim in every workout is to progress - by beating your previous workout. You can still improve your lifts in a fat loss phase, the conditions are not ideal but you should still try to overload.
