As I said in another thread as long as you are on a caloric deficit you will lose weight regardless of if you workout or not.
There are calculators online that determine your daily caloric maintenance (how much calories your body needs daily). I believe for the average woman its 1800 calories to survive. So if your caloric maintenance is 2000, then all you need is a 200-500 deficit and you will lose weight.
If you are trying to gain muscle/strength its the opposite. A caloric surplus will allow you to gain weight.
Its true that exercise speeds up the metabolism, and its healthy for the body. Exercise helps, but if you are exercising and eating too much you are not making any progress. That's why its critical to count your calories and macros.
