Does Green Tea promote weight loss?

Postby MarinaVergo » Wed Mar 07, 2012 5:22 pm

I bought these cans of no calorie, no sugar, green tea, it supposedly speeds up metabolism and keeps you full. I'm going to eat healthily and continue exercising. Do you think this will help me with my weight loss goals?

No nutrients? Sounds like you bought a green tea FLAVOURED beverage not actual tea. Real green tea helps your metabolism (which can promote weight loss but it is not a guarantee) Real green tea is full of vitamins. You'll know it's real when you read the label.

I have read some studies that say that Green Tea could possibly help to lose weight. I think it is intended to increase the metabolism. There are conflicting opinions as to whether it is really a real help in losing weight. It does sound like you have purchased one of the water flavoring no calorie powders though. I would try some regular green tea as it has helpful benefits and who knows, it might help with weight loss too?

I think it can work when you replace other high calorie drinks with it. Get an actual green tea and not some artificially flavored one. It should not be overly expensive. You could probably get it better from a health food store.

I agree with the others, as long as what you've bought is the actual natural green tea and not those sugar-laced, green tea-flavored ones then you're fine. But be aware that green tea is also like coffee, it has caffeine, and too much of something that's supposed to be good for you will actually be detrimental to your health. If you limit yourself to two cups of green tea daily, combined with exercise and a balanced meal plan then you'll be set. You'll shed of the excess pounds and keep it off at the same time. Good luck! :D

I know a lot of bodybuilders that drink green tea and praise its anti oxidant effect. As for losing weight, I have mixed feelings.

I don't believe green tea promotes fat loss. I think it cleanses out your system, particularly the intestines and gets rid of stored waste. I read somewhere that the weight is not so significant, something like 5-10lbs a year if you drink green tea regularly.

One thing to keep in mind is that green tea contains fluoride. Like anything too much is not healthy. Fluoride has been shown to calcify certain glands in the brain, so be moderate.

Green tea is rich in antioxidants and will speed up your metabolism. It is not significant but it will help. Incidentally, Chinese white tea has even more antioxidants than green tea. Green tea is even more effective when fasting - drinking green tea on a fast will literally kill stubborn fat cells!

My only suggestion is to brew your own tea. You mentioned no calories and no sugar, but are there any other additives with it coming from a can?

Yes, this is true. Green tea is great for weight loss because it helps with the metabolism. Another thing that is so cool with green tea is that it is packed with antioxidants and fiber too. It helps you have a regular bowel movement.

Green tea is more of a cleanser. It can help in losing weight naturally but you really need to control your eating. Green tea has been known to be effective in so many ways not just weight loss and I recommend it for those who prefer a natural method than using weight loss pills.
