Digital Scales

Which is the best brand for digital scales and what are the features I should be looking for to get an all around measurement/weight?

I have the basic type of bathroom scale that is digital. I just have to zero it out before using it and I use a 25 lb dumbbell to do this. This has worked great for me and really helped me in finding out how much I am weighing at any given time.

I have always done really well with Homedics scales, analog or digital.

You can try to find a scale that will measure body mass and fat, etc., but you could just as easily get a digital scale and a tape measure to really gauge your progress. I like to measure chest, waist, hips and both thighs.

I calibrate my scale about once a month.

Thanks for your input, both of you. The problem (and reason I'm asking) is because we have two digital scales in the house, and they both tell me I weigh something different. I measure myself on them both right after the other. There is always about a 6 pounds difference between them. So was hoping to find a new one that may actually work. I like the tape measure idea, as I'm sure that is a lot cheaper as well lol

You get what you pay for when it comes to digital scales, unless you can find decent second hand scales on Ebay etc. Salters are a good brand for a mid-range market price. I'm not really a fan of digital scales, I have found them to be quite unreliable in the past.

One of the scales is a 'Biggest Loser' scale. It came with a workout DVD and huge exercise ball. I'm not sure which brand the other one is though since I didn't purchase it. To calibrate them would I just use a weight like a previous poster said? Which kind of scale do you use Shaun, or do you not?

If that's all, that's not as big of a problem as you think. For some reason, scales always seem to get out of whack. I think it has to do with things sitting on the scale when they shouldn't be and it throws it off.

Either way, just get a weight, 15 pounds would be your best bet, and calibrate your scale from there. Do it three times to see what the scale says and try to see if it is consistent in its readings.

Even if it consistently reads 13 pounds, you'll know that it's at least two pounds off when you step on it. If you have heavier weights, that will be better because when I've had to do this, the reading got closer and closer the heavier the weight.

Only use this suggestion if you don't feel like buying another scale at this time. Use the tape measure with every scale you get. No matter what, you'll get a more accurate assessment of you weight loss or gain.

Have you considered keeping track of measurements instead? To me, it does not matter so much how much I weight. Even though I have only lost about 15 pounds so far with my weight loss, I have dropped about 3 sizes in clothing. I can tell my body is becoming stronger and more toned. I don't need a number to tell me that what I am doing is working :)

I have started to get annoyed with my digital scale.

It is too sensitive and gives measurements are way off. Unless, I am suddenly able to gain and lose 5 points in matter of hours. If I have the ability, I will be ripped in a few days!

Digital scales tend to provide a lot of issues. They look spiffy and attract people to buy them, but they are utterly useless at times.
