IBBF champion bodybuilder Karuna Swami launches fitness modeling program




Karuna Swami, the winner of Indian Body Building Federation’s Miss India Fitness Physique 2012, has launched her fitness modeling program in Mumbai to train fitness enthusiasts and aspiring body builders and body sculptors in the competitive sport of fitness modeling and fitness body building.

Speaking at the launch at UK Fitness in Juhu in suburban Mumbai, Karuna Swami who has trained extensively with Ms Marika Johansson (international celebrity trainer from the USA, founder-owner of bodybuilding.com and Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan’s personal trainer) said, “There are hundreds of gymnasiums and fitness centers in India which help people achieve a certain basic degree of fitness, but fitness modeling is a few steps ahead. It is an internationally accepted competitive sport like body building and requires very professional training and trainers with international exposure to the sport.

When I decided to compete internationally, I realised that there is absolutely no centre or institute which trains an enthusiast in the sport, art and skills of fitness modeling. There are hardly any Indian trainers who are adequately qualified and experienced to train enthusiasts in the competitive sport. With support from my husband Uday Swami, who is himself a fitness modeling enthusiast and body builder, we decided to launch the fitness modeling Program at our Juhu Centre in suburban Mumbai to coach fitness enthusiasts in the finer points of fitness modeling.”
Titled Karuna Swami’s fitness modeling Program, the first batch of trainees will start their 3-month rigorous routine at the Juhu Centre of UK Fitness in the first half of May 2012. Both Karuna and Uday Swami are personal trainers and cater to the training and fitness needs of several Bollywood celebrities and corporate business persons alike. They run UK Fitness which has four centers in Mumbai – at Vikhroli, Andheri, Juhu and Powai.
Karuna Swami who has been training for the last 16 years is a professional body builder and has participated in several national level competitions. She has been selected by the IBBF to represent India at the Asian fitness modeling Championships to be held in China in September 2012. She is a Yoga expert and gymnast, besides a dancer and has organized over a hundred fitness and body building training camps for women over the last few years.
