Start powerlifting
Everyone I have heard starts Powerlifting by knowing someone somewhere who’s done it or still doing it. The great thing about this sport is there are so many weight catagories and age groups lifting you’re pretty much assured to be in a catagory somewhere.
I got into by a PT in a gym, who after seeing me squat thought I had reasonable enough technique to up the weight and give it a go. I had recently retired from rugby and still needed to compete, so I agreed. 18 months in and training like a mad thing I have completed 2 UK comps and am now invited to compete at the World Championships, so its been a bit of a wild ride.
There are quite a few Federations;
Can I compete raw or equipped?
The answer to that is yes to both. You go to a meet and compete in either form. I personally compete kitted; I love to push the heaviest I can go and the kit just protects my joints!
How do I compete?
Take a look at the sites listed; they will list the up and coming events, pay the event organiser, weight and pay you fed membership, then lift your socks off!
